Books Aren't Dangerous: Support First Book | Thoughtful Thursday #BooksArentDangerous

Here on Mundie Moms we are passionate about reading, and getting books into the hands of young readers, (as well as readers who are young at heart). Last week I posted about an awesome campaign, called BOOKS AREN'T DANGEROUS #BooksArentDangerous. Authors Kami Garcia, and Margaret Stohl, along with their publisher, The NOVL have teamed with First Book to get books into the hands of those who need them. From May 12th-26th, readers are asked to post a picture of yourself with a book that saved your life, or one you'd recommend reading. For every book that is posted, a book will be matched to donate to First Books.

It’s super easy! Here’s how to participate (per my previous post):

• During the two weeks of May 12-May 26 hashtag #BooksArentDangerous & post your photo with a book.

• The book can be one that mattered to you, one you wish you’d had, or a current read you would recommend.
  
  

• You can post on facebook, instagram, twitter, or tumblr.

In addition, authors, readers, teachers, librarians, bloggers, and bookseller friends are encouraged to take this opportunity to donate books to underfunded local school libraries. If you do, please post those pics too, and we’ll be reposting at www.booksarentdangerous.com.

Kids can get involved too! Readers of all ages can get involved. It's a great opportunity for parents and kids to spend some time going through their own bookshelves, and donate the gently used books they don't read anymore. Not only is this a great opportunity to spend time together, you're doing a service, and volunteering your time to help others out. You can go through your books, package them up, and ship them out to First Book. Not to mention, you've just done some spring cleaning, and made room for more books on your bookshelves. If you do send a box of books, it's not too expensive to do so. You can send them media mail or fill up a flat rate box. 

If you'd rather donate financially, you can do so here. 97% of ALL donates provide new books for children in need (per First Book's site).

The right book at the right time can be life changing. Help put books in the hands of young readers in need. From May 12 – 26, post a picture of yourself with a book that saved or changed your life—or even just one you'd recommend—with the hashtag: #booksarentdangerous

For every picture posted, up to 5,000, The NOVL will donate a book to First Book, to help underfunded schools and libraries. Here's an example of some of the pictures below.

Grab your favorite book, or a current, or one you'd recommend to other readers, and snap a picture of yourself or with your fur baby and post it. Don't forget to use #BooksArentDangerous with it.
