Compulsion by Martina Boone, Blog Tour: Author Interview / Enter to WIN! #CompulsionForMagic

Hello & welcome to the I Have A Compulsion for Magic blog tour
I'm so thrilled to be apart of the tour to celebrate the upcoming release of Martina Boone's debut, Compulsion. Today I'm thrilled to have author Martina Boone on the blog to talk about her debut release. After you my interview with her, be sure to check out the massive giveaway! Be sure to follow the entire tour for most chances to win, and check out the rest of the author guest posts.

Hi Martina! Welcome to Mundie Moms. Thank you for stopping by today. Which character did you enjoy getting to know through your writing process for Compulsion?

I love them all, but Barrie was the character that grew the most for me. I loved seeing her experience loss and find herself on the other side of it, and discovering her magic was so much fun!

Were you surprised with any of your character's decisions?

Barrie surprised me all the time. I didn’t always agree with her decisions—but that’s me looking at her as an adult, or as someone who isn’t dealing with grief. Every time I, as the author, fought something that she wanted to do, I ended up discovering that with everything that was pulling on her, she couldn’t have done anything different.

If you could have one of the gifts your characters do, which gift would that be? Why?

Could I have the gift without the compulsion? If so, then I’d take finding lost things. I’m constantly losing EVERYTHING. Of course, it would be nice to know what people want most, as long as I had the time and money to be able to help make their wishes come true.

Do you have a favorite line from the book you can share with us?

"It doesn’t matter how great your shoes are, if you don’t accomplish anything in them.” It’s a good reminder for me to keep pushing to do more every day.

What have your recently read that you'd recommend to my readers?

Oh, so many things. Let’s go with Afterworlds by Scott Westerfeld.

Thank you Martina for stopping by today!

About The Book

COMPULSION (HEIRS OF WATSON ISLAND, BOOK 1)
Simon & Schuster, Simon Pulse
Hardcover, 10/28/14 ISBN: 1481411225

Three plantations. Two gifts. One ancient curse.

All her life, Barrie Watson has been a virtual prisoner in the house where she lives with her shut-in mother. When her mother dies, Barrie promises to put some mileage on her stiletto heels. But she finds a new kind of prison at her aunts South Carolina plantation insteada prison guarded by an ancient spirit who long ago cursed one of the three founding families of Watson Island and gave the others magical gifts that became compulsions.

Stuck with the ghosts of a generations-old feud and hunted by forces she cannot see, Barrie must find a way to break free of the family legacy. With the help of sun-kissed Eight Beaufort, who somehow seems to know what Barrie wants before she knows herself, the last Watson heir starts to unravel her familys twisted secrets. What she finds is dangerous: a love she never expected, a river that turns to fire at midnight, a gorgeous cousin who isnt what she seems, and very real enemies who want both Eight and Barrie dead.

  2. I would say finding things that are lost. It's not too exciting, however, it'd really help me in my every day life. I lose things all the time and spend an incredible chunk of time trying to find that. If I could cut that time down, I'd have more time to read!
