Carrie Ryan, The Dead Tossed Waves Blog Stop

We are so excited to have Carrie on our blog today! If you haven't read The Dead Tossed Waves yet, be sure to go pick it up! It's an amazing read!!
*this is a spoiler free Q&A*

Do you listen to music when you write? If so, do you have a play list for The Dead Tossed Waves?
I wish I could listen to music when I write but I find that it distracts me more than anything else (I’ve even tried to listen to a playlist when doing this interview but I end up wanting to sing along to the words rather than write). However, there’s been on exception which was when I was writing the end of The Dead-Tossed Waves. Writing the final few scenes I listened to two songs over and over again: The Kiss and Promentory from The Last of the Mohicans Soundtrack.

If you lived in your story, would live in the forest or behind the barrier? Which characters would you have to have with you?
Wow, great question! I think it depends on the rest of the community around me. I definitely think that there are plenty of characters who grow up in Mary’s village or Gabry’s town living very fulfilled and content lives. But that’s just not who Mary and Gabry were. In terms of choosing between Mary’s world or Gabry’s… I think I’d probably choose Gabry’s only because I’m quite partial to the ocean. I’d be afraid that Mary’s village would become way too claustrophobic!
As for companions, I would definitely chose to have Argos or Odys with me because a dog makes everything better :)

We're with you. We'd definitely pick Argos or Odys and we'd choose Gabry's world as well. If your favorite character from another author could make a guest appearance in your story, who would that be?
I’d love to see Katniss from The Hunger Games show up and kick some butt!

Katniss would be amazing! She wouldn't be afraid to kick some Zombie butt. Are there any deleted scenes or characters that didn't make it into The Dead Tossed Waves?
There are more than I could probably count. I tend to write really rough drafts and then revise very deeply. I rewrote the final few scenes toward the end of the revision process and started the book over several times. I think my cut file for the book is probably as long as (or longer) the book itself!

Will there be another companion book or a sequel to TDTW?
Yes! There’s a third book in the series called The Dark and Hollow Places which will hopefully be coming out Spring 2011. I don’t know how much I can share now but I think it’s a more direct sequel to DTW than DTW was to FHT. I can’t wait to share more about the book :)

YAY! We can't wait to read The Dark and Hollow Places. Thank you so much for taking the time to answer our questions Carrie. Happy Mundane Monday #26

"So now he's back from the dead and he's come looking for her. Maybe he wants to get back together." - Isabelle
"I kind of doubt he sent a Ravener demon to her house because he wants to 'get back together,'" said Alec.
"It wouldn't be my move," Jace agreed. "First the candy and flowers, then the apology letters,
then the ravenous demon hordes. In that order." - City of Bones, page 153 Jace, Alec and Isabelle
