The Morganville Vampire Series

MundieMoms is proud to announce that we will be spotlighting the Morganville Vampire series in January. Currently there are six published books in the series and number seven will be released in November. Rachel Caine, the author of the series, has graciously agreed to join MundieMoms in a chat in January as well. In order to prepare for this event, I thought it would be appropriate to post a brief overview of the series. Readers should read the books in order as each one builds on events in the previous novels. The pace is fast and each one ends on a cliffhanger leaving readers thirsty for more. I am a HUGE fan! I give this series 5 stars.Be sure to check out Rachel's awesome site for chapters, fan art, videos, and more!

Welcome to Morganville. We hope you enjoy your stay because you can never leave.

This would probably be the most appropriate welcome sign for the small town of Morganville, Texas. Living in Morganville bites – in the literal sense of the word. Why? Well, Morganville isn’t exactly what it seems. The town is run by some very old and very controlling vampires. Natives of the town know exactly how to behave to ensure that their blood stays inside their veins, but those who don’t watch their step often become dinner.

Claire Danvers, a 16 year old, who excels in all things academic ends up in Morganville to attend the local college. Due to her age, her parents didn’t want to send her too far away from home for her first year of college. Little do they know their decision may just get Claire killed.

The Morganville series follows the story of Claire as she struggles to avoid becoming part of the vampire food chain.

Below are brief summaries of each of the released books:

Book #1: Glass Houses

Claire arrives in Morganville to attend college only to find out that things in the sleepy Texas town aren’t what they seem. After a nasty run in with some girls at the dorm, Claire finds herself in desperate need of a place to live. She stumbles upon a house in need of a roommate off campus and instantly falls in with a new group of people that can show her the ropes – Michael, Shane, and Eve. Through her new housemates Claire learns to survive when the undead come out to play.

Book #2: The Dead Girls’ Dance

Claire is back to brave higher education in the town of Morganville. This book brings a few changes such as a boyfriend for Claire. However, her boyfriend comes with a bit of baggage including a troubled past and a vampire hunting father. Claire has started to understand the structure of her new home a bit better. Citizens can pledge their allegiance to specific vampires. In exchange, these vampires offer their protection. Those who have chosen to follow this path are identified by the bracelets they wear. But will these bracelets always be honored?

This book takes an interesting turn when Claire and Eve are invited to the annual Dead Girls’ Dance held by one of the local fraternities. The event keeps true to its name!

Book #3: Midnight Alley

Claire and the gang are back to face more challenges with the undead. The fragile truce between humans and vampires is precariously close to falling apart and in a town like Morganville that only means more people will die. Claire must deal with the rising death count, a psycho stalker, and private lessons with an ancient bloodsucker, Myrnin. That’s a lot to deal with for someone who is also taking a full college course load! To make matters worse, Claire has pledged herself to the head vampire, Amelie. As the story unfolds, readers also gain more insight into the Morganville culture.

Book #4: Feast of Fools

This is my personal favorite in the series!

Amelie’s father, Mr. Bishop, one of the oldest vampires who still walks the earth has come home to Morganville. Along the way, he has also brought Claire’s parents who wanted to check up on their little brain. Claire not only has to worry about her safety and the safety of her friends, but now her parents have been brought into the fray. Mr. Bishop cares nothing about the rules that Amelie and the other vampires have set up. He sees humans as food and nothing more. The fragile thread of co-existence breaks a little more. Nobody really knows exactly what Mr. Bishop is up to until he calls for a massive feast and party to be held. The ball requires each vampire in town to attend with a human date. Will everyone make it home or will they be the appetizers?

Book #5: Lord of Misrule

A vampire war is raging in Morganville; the towns citizens are caught in the middle. Bishop seeks to destroy the order that Amelie has created and thrust Morganville into a chaotic bloodbath. Amelie is gathering forces to take her father down while Claire and her friends work together to battle both natural and supernatural forces in this fast paced thriller. This book provides more insight into the workings of Myrnin’s mind and the importance of his research. Claire, as his apprentice, is often put in harm’s way and must fight to stay alive. Bishop doesn’t just want to destroy the town – he wants Claire and all the knowledge her mind possesses. Will Claire be able to keep her freedom this time?

Book #6: Carpe Corpus

Bishop’s stay in town hasn’t been a pleasant one. He is still searching for the book of vampire secrets and he suspects that Claire knows more than she’s saying. The older vampires in Morganville are also still getting sick with a strange disease. Myrnin and Claire must continue their research on the cure in order to save the undead before they lose themselves to madness. Bishop’s iron grasp is strangling the life out of Morganville and its citizens. An underground resistance movement forms to try to liberate the town from Bishop’s tyranny. In response, Bishop vows to obliterate the town. Can Claire and the gang once again save the day?

Book #7: Fade Out

This book will be released November 3.

Here is a brief summary from Amazon:

Without the evil vampire Bishop ruling over the town of Morganville, the resident vampires have made major concessions to the human population. With their newfound freedoms, Claire Danvers and her friends are almost starting to feel comfortable again...

Now Claire can actually concentrate on her studies, and her friend Eve joins the local theatre company. But when one of Eve's castmates goes missing after starting work on a short documentary, Eve suspects the worst. Claire and Eve soon realize that this film project, whose subject is the vampires themselves, is a whole lot bigger-and way more dangerous-than anyone suspected.
